"Mercy Peak" is a New Zealand-based TV series about
Dr. Nicky Somerville who leaves the drama of the big city ER in favour of a fresh start in Bassett, population 5058.
The big-city girl finds that small-town
life isn't as simple as she expected it to be and that the residents of Bassett have lives full
of romance, passions, beliefs and foibles.
The New Zealand series is described as as "a grown-up show with characters that are infuriating but irresistible, wonderful people" by one of its stars, Craig Parker -- who plays the frustrated town doctor, Alistair Kingsley (and who can also be spotted in the Lord of the Rings trilogy as Haldir, Marchwarden of Lorien.) |
|
Despite having a basic concept similar to the U.S. shows "Everwood" and "Northern Exposure" the creators of the show describe "Mercy Peak" as a drama series with a niche of its own. It combines elements of drama and off-beat humour with genuine look at real New Zealanders. Reviewers describe the show as one that maintains a "freshness and sure-footedness" in a familiar formula with an award-winning, ensemble cast. "Mercy Peak" is produced by South Pacific Pictures and airs on TV One in New Zealand and the W Network (formerly WTN) in Canada. Episodes 35 and 38 will both be featuring Lorna's songs "Ordinary" and "The Storms." |

Lorna's featured performances in film soundtracks started haphazardly while working with a film crew
and owes much to the help of two gracious, young film actors:
Leslie Bibb, best known for her lead role
as "Brooke McQueen" on the WB Television Network's teen drama series Popular (1999) and her stint on ER and
Joshua Jackson,
one of the principal characters, "Pacey Witter", on the popular TV series
Dawson's Creek (1998).
A bored and harried make-up crew working on the Toronto set of the Universal Studio's film, The Skulls (2000) starring Joshua and Leslie, borrowed Lorna's CD, Taste, to play in the make-up trailer. Copies of the CD soon were passed along to other members of the film crew, and eventually landed in Leslie's hands. |

| To prepare for a steamy love scene with Joshua, Leslie played the title song, "Taste" in a continuous loop for the mood it inspired. Agreeing with Leslie that the song was great for the scene, Joshua later approached the director of the movie, Rob Cohen, asking that the song be featured in the movie. The song was featured in the film as requested by Joshua and Leslie, and also played during the closing credits. |

Also from the album Taste, is the song "You Fascinate Me" which is featured in a Swiss independent feature film entitled Dead by Monday which was filmed on location in Canada. The film stars Helen Baxendale, who is best known for role on the BBC television series, Cardiac Arrest, but known to North American audiences for her short turn on the television series Friends (1994) as the heartbroken, British fiancée/wife of the character Ross (David Schwimmer). Also starring in the film is Tim Dutton, who had a small role in Patriot Games (1992), but is perhaps best known for his short stint on Ally McBeal (1997). He played Ally's sweet-but-sexually-mediocre boyfriend, who was quickly dumped in favour of Robert Downey Jr. |
| Shortly after The Skulls was filmed, Lorna's song "Taste" was also licenced for the direct-to-video movie Cruel Intentions II (2000). This prequel to the 1999 Columbia Pictures feature film, Cruel Intentions was also to be the pilot episode of a racy, teen drama series called Manchester Prep to be aired on Fox Television. Finding the production to be too explicit, Fox cancelled the series and the pilot episode never aired. A snippet of the song "Taste" can be heard on the video release available from Columbia TriStar Home Video. |
